About Me

I developed an interest in eating nutrient dense foods 25 years ago. I was 55 years old and believed that I was in top notch health because I was running an average of 75 miles a week.
My caloric intake was about 5000 calories a day. I gave no thought to whether I was eating a healthy diet. Common foods which I consumed included fast foods, baked goods, sweets and foods with a high sodium content. I routinely ate bacon cheeseburgers, french fries, vanilla milk shakes, a doughnut at midmorning and another doughnut at midafternoon, coffee with a generous addition of half & half and sugar, several chocolate chip/oatmeal breakfast bars, 3-4 eggs with bacon and toast with a generous layer of butter.
Life, in my opinion, was good! I felt ok and did not gain weight.
My world came crashing down when my doctor was reviewing results of a blood test and mentioned that my triglycerides were abnormally high. Initially, I was not concerned because naively, I thought long distance running would resolve the problem. My doctor said that if I did not make significant changes in my food intake I would be at risk for a heart attack, stroke and diabetes. Talk about a wakeup call!
That encounter with my doctor was the beginning of my journey to healthier eating.
It took about 6 months to make sufficient changes in my food intake to lower the triglycerides to what was considered an acceptable level. In retrospect, I was eating enough healthy foods and had reduced sufficient unhealthy foods to get my triglyceride levels where they needed to be, but I had a long way to go before I was eating nutritious meals. I was out of the woods as far as serious health issues were concerned, but did not feel any differently. It took a while before I began to experience the true benefits of a healthy diet. These benefits included an increase in enthusiasm especially in the morning, elimination of brain fog, less forgetfulness, and significantly less periods of feeling overwhelmed.
I believe that if I could change my terrible eating habits, you can as well. In my manual, I will share the steps that I took to make gradual changes in what I ate so that I did not feel as if I was depriving myself.
My mission for you is for you to have a healthy eating plan that is simple, sensible and sustainable.
I hope you invest in my manual and if so, please be sure to let me know how you are doing.
